Genuinely great and infuriating (complimentary) puzzle game, the way it establishes rules then escalates the use of those rules to absurd levels reminds me of Baba Is You, albeit shorter (but punchier for it). Just a constant cycle of “what the ♥♥♥♥ is this?”, “oh, now I understand… yeah that technically following the established rules, I GUESS.”, and back to “what the ♥♥♥♥ is this NOW?”. Great use of simple elements in creative ways with the main mechanic of squishing blocks together.

When I got to (what I suspected to be, but wasn’t sure at the time) the last “world”, I got stuck on one puzzle that seemed like it should be simple, with so few elements to play with and room to move in, but just couldn’t get it. Eventually I set it aside, ate dinner, hung out with my girlfriend, etc, then went to bed. But I couldn’t sleep. Insomnia, not because I was thinking about Squishcraft, but while I was awake anyway I was thinking about Squishcraft, and finally got up, came back to my computer

and tried the solution I’d been thinking about and it worked. So I moved on to the next level, and eventually the next, and so on until I’d beaten enough to finish the game. That’s the kind of puzzles it gives you – you can keep turning them over and over in your head even after you walk away, and once you think of a new approach you just have to try it (and sometimes, it might even work).

A very unique mechanic set, and a developer who couldn’t be assed to make a “serious” game out of it and have it be ignored, so they went this route instead. I’m here for it, even if it’s a little much sometimes. Great puzzles (mostly), geared towards people who have already played plenty of sokoban and are fed up with basic goal conditions and puzzle elements. This game is best discovered without spoilers, so go forth.
